In Productive, time entries and bookings are always connected to a service. By linking a service directly to a task, the service is automatically prefilled whenever someone tracks time or creates a booking on that task — and the service field becomes available in task views and reports for easier filtering and organization.
Who Can See and Edit the Service Field
Only users with the Add, Edit, and Delete Projects permission can change or assign the service to the task.
Everyone else will see whether the field is empty or which service is assigned to it, but won't be able to edit it.
If the field isn't relevant to a particular view, it can be hidden using the hide field option.
Link Task to Service
You can link a task to a service directly from the task sidebar. Choose the available services from the budgets or deals connected to the project the task belongs to.
When time is tracked via that task, the selected service is automatically prefilled, though it can still be changed to a different service if needed.
📌 Note: The service will only be prefilled if time tracking is allowed on that service. For example, time can’t be tracked against services on budgets whose start date hasn’t occurred yet or whose end date has already passed.
The same applies when creating bookings on tasks.
In addition to the service, the booking also autofills the assigned person and — if a time estimate exists on the task — uses the remaining hours to prefill the allocation, so the booking is ready to create with minimal additional input.
When you create a subtask, it automatically inherits the service linked to the parent task — but only if the service is already set on the parent at the moment the subtask is created. If you add or change the service on a parent task after a subtask already exists, the subtask will not be updated.
📌 Note: When tracking time from My Time or via the timer, tasks are not currently listed under their linked service automatically and will need to be selected manually. This is something we're actively working on improving.
Assigning Services in Bulk
You can assign services to multiple tasks from any view by selecting multiple tasks at once and choosing the service from the action menu.
You can also group the tasks by service to get a clearer picture of how work is distributed across your budget lines.
📌 Note: For more on organizing tasks in views, see Task Views.
Using Task-Service Relation in Reports
The Service field is also available in Task Reports, where you can filter tasks by service.
The tasks report can also group the results by service.
