When adding services to a budget or a deal, you have several options for tracking progress.
You can enable or disable tracking time spent working on the service and logging expenses against the service, and decide whether the service should be available in Resourcing for future bookings to simplify planning.
By managing these tracking options, you can tailor how you monitor and plan budgets, ensuring that time, expenses, and bookings are accurately tracked according to your needs.
Time Tracking Option
To enable or disable time tracking for a specific service, click the clock π icon while setting up or editing the services in a budget or deal.
Each newly added service (+ New item) will inherit the time-tracking status of the previously added service.
If time tracking is disabled, employees and contractors cannot log time for that service, and the service dropdown menu will only display services with enabled time tracking.
β
Note: If a timer is active when you disable the time tracking option for a service, the timer will not stop automatically since it was started before the option was disabled.
By default, time tracking is enabled for Open hours and disabled for Open expenses (find more about these here).
Expense Tracking Option
To enable or disable expense tracking for services, the unit must be set to piece. Then, click the receipt π icon to either disable or enable expense tracking for the service

Booking Tracking Option
To enable or disable booking tracking for services, click the calendar π icon while setting up or editing your budget or deal.
When booking tracking is disabled, project managers and budget owners cannot create bookings in Resourcing for that service. The service dropdown menu in Resourcing will only display services with enabled booking tracking.
Units and Tracking Options
You'll notice that changing the billing type (Time and Materials, Fixed, Non-billable) and adjusting the unit (Hour, Day, Piece) affects what you can track against a service. Hereβs a brief overview:
Hours or Days (for Time and Materials, Fixed, and Non-billable services)
Enables time tracking and resource scheduling (booking) in Resourcing for the services. You can define the number of hours in a "Day" (person-day) in Settings > General > Work time.
βPiece (for Time and Materials services)
Enables only expense tracking. This is ideal for scenarios where you need to track expenses but do not require booking people or tracking time.
βPiece (for Fixed or Non-billable services): Enables all three available tracking types (time tracking, bookings, and expense tracking).
However, it is recommended to use this combination primarily for expense tracking, as piece time entries and bookings do not count towards recognized revenue. More on revenue recognition can be found here.
