Managing Jira Time Entries

Manage and modify your time entries logged via the Productive Time Tracking widget in Jira.

Updated over a week ago

After logging time through the Productive Time Tracking widget in Jira, here's what you can do to modify and manage the time entries.

Assign Time to Tasks

If time tracking on tasks is enabled in Productive, you can assign the time entry to a task in Productive. Select the time entry and then "Assign to task".

Change the Date and the Note

You can adjust the time entry date and note in Jira. Select the time entry and pick a new date or modify the note.

  • Any changes will be synced to Productive.

  • Changes made in Productive will also sync back to Productive's Time Tracking widget in Jira.

Remove Time Entry

To delete a time entry, click on it in the widget and select “Remove time entry”. This will delete the entry in Productive and the widget, and Jira Work Log.

View in Productive

Time entries appear in the budget as worked time.

Approving a time entry in Productive confirms it as billable, making it included in budget calculations, visible to clients with access, and locked from editing unless first unapproved.

If the entry is yours, it will appear under your My Time section.

Each time entry includes a link that takes you directly to the related Jira issue or task.

To see all entries, including those logged by others, use Time > Company Time.

If you are an approver, entries will also appear in your Approvals Inbox.

Manually Adjust Worked Time vs. Billable Time

In the Productive widget in Jira, select a time entry and click Worked time to make adjustments. Billable time cannot be changed in Jira.

Changes to worked time in the widget will sync with Productive.

To adjust billable time, go directly to Productive. You can access the time entry via:

  • Time tab in the budget

  • My Time (if it’s your entry)

  • Company Time (for others’ entries)

  • Approval Inbox (if you are the approver)

If you have the necessary permissions in Productive, you can adjust both worked and billable time, and these changes will sync back to the Productive widget in Jira.

📌 Important: Only worked time is reflected in Jira Work Log. Changes made directly in Productive—whether worked or billable—will update the Productive widget but will not update Jira Work Log.
To ensure both worked time and Jira Work Log are updated, edit the time entry in the Productive widget in Jira.

Storing Jira Issue Information

When recording time entries in Productive, the following Jira issue information is stored:

  • Jira Issue ID

  • Jira Issue Link

  • Jira Issue Status

  • Jira Issue Summary

  • Jira Worklog ID

This information is valuable for generating reports and can be used as fields and filters in Productive's time entry reports.
