Managing Jira Time Entries

Manage and modify your time entries logged via the Productive Time Tracking widget in Jira.

Updated over a week ago

After logging time through the Productive Time Tracking widget in Jira, here's what you can do to modify and manage the time entries.

Assign Time to Tasks

If time tracking on tasks is enabled in Productive, you can assign the time entry to a task in Productive. Select the time entry and then "Assign to task".

Change the Date and the Note

You can adjust the time entry date and note in Jira. Select the time entry and pick a new date or modify the note.

  • Any changes will be synced to Productive.

  • Changes made in Productive will also sync back to Productive's Time Tracking widget in Jira.

Remove Time Entry

To remove a time entry, click on it and select "Remove time entry" to delete it from both Jira and Productive.

View in Productive

  • Approved time entries will appear in the budget.

  • And under the user's "My time" section in Productive.

  • In the Day view in Time > My Time, a link assigned to the time entry will take you directly to the related issue/task in Jira.

Manually Adjust Worked Time vs. Billable Time

In Jira, select the time entry and click on "Worked time" to make adjustments. Billable time cannot be adjusted in Jira.

  • Changes will sync with Productive.

  • In Productive, you can adjust both Worked and Billable time, and these changes will sync back to the widget in Jira.

Important: Changes to the time entry made in Productive will be visible in the Productive Time Tracking widget, but not in the Jira Worklog. To apply changes to both, edit the time entry in Jira's widget.

Storing Jira Issue Information

When recording time entries in Productive, the following Jira issue information is stored:

  • Jira Issue ID

  • Jira Issue Link

  • Jira Issue Status

  • Jira Issue Summary

  • Jira Worklog ID

This information is valuable for generating reports and can be used as fields and filters in Productive's time entry reports.
