Setting Up Productive Time Tracking Integration with Jira

Install the Productive time tracking widget in Jira for seamless time log synchronization. Follow these steps to integrate.

Updated over 2 weeks ago

Overview

Integrating Productive with Jira allows seamless time tracking. By using the Productive widget, time logged in Jira appears in Productive.

πŸ“Œ Important: Once set up, only use the Productive widget to track time if you want it to sync to Productive. Native Jira time tracking will not sync.

Benefits of the integration:

  • Consistent Time Tracking: Maintains accurate records of work hours across platforms.

  • Simplified Workflow: Makes managing time entries and project progress easier.

  • Enhanced Reporting: Offers clear insights into time spent on projects.

Step-by-Step Guide

1) Access Jira Settings

Navigate to Jira and open the Settings dropdown in the upper-right corner.

2) Select Apps

Choose Apps from the dropdown.

3) Search for Productive

Locate Productive in the "Find new apps" section.

4) Install the Productive Time Tracking Widget

Click on Get App next to the Productive time tracking widget.

Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.

Once the integration has been set up, you'll get a confirmation, and you'll be ready to connect Jira with projects in Productive.

Managing the Integration

Open App Settings in Jira

Select Manage Apps and click on Productive to uninstall it or check the integration information.

Important Note on SSO Compatibility

If your organization enforces Single Sign-On (SSO) in Productive, note that the Jira widget does not support logging in via SSO.

This means that users will not be able to log into the Jira widget using their SSO credentials.

Workaround

To access the Jira widget without using SSO, use a personal API access token instead of logging in with your credentials. You can generate an API access token in Productive by following these steps:

  1. Navigate to Settings > API Integrations in Productive.

  2. Create a personal API access token.

  3. Make sure to select the read and write access level.

  4. Use this token to log in to the Jira widget.

For detailed instructions, refer to the API Access with Personal Access Tokens article.
