Dashboards in Projects

Quickly visualize key project metrics with customizable dashboards. Track status, finance, capacity, and more in one place.

Updated today

Dashboards in Projects let you display data directly inside a project by adding a dedicated tab. This allows you to track revenue, tasks, time off, and write notes.

Adding a Dashboard Tab

To add a Dashboard tab:

  • Click Show all tabs at the end of your current navigation bar.

  • Select + New tab.

  • Choose Dashboard

๐Ÿ‘‰ For more information on how to add and customize visible tabs in your project, see the article on Navigating Projects: Tabs and Layout Options.

๐Ÿ“Œ Note: You can add multiple Dashboard tabs to your project, each with its own different layout and widgets.

๐Ÿ“Œ Each user will only have access to the data that is allowed by their permission set.

๐Ÿ“Œ Certain widgets will appear as "restricted widgets" to users who do not have the necessary data access permissions!

Dashboard Templates

After adding a dashboard tab to your project, you can either start from existing templates or build the dashboard from scratch.

๐Ÿ“Œ Note: Each widget created through the dashboard template can be further customized, deleted, and any number of new widgets can be added.

Widgets

Widgets are the building blocks of a dashboard. They can display data (from reports or templates) or provide context (with notes, headings, and dividers). Data widgets update automatically every 60 seconds.

Adding a Widget

To add a widget, open the Widget dropdown in the upper right. Youโ€™ll see several options.

โ€‹

  • Report

Build a widget from scratch using data sources like projects, tasks, bookings, time, budgets, deals, and more.
    โ€‹

  • Note

Add a rich-text widget to leave explanations, write step-by-step guides, add links, or share messages with your team.

Notes support text formatting, images, banners, quotes, tables, and hyperlinks, similar to Docs.
    โ€‹

  • Heading

Add a title or label to visually separate sections of your dashboard. You can add one or multiple headings and distribute them across the dashboard as needed.

  • Divider

Insert a horizontal line to split dashboard content.

    โ€‹

  • From Template

Add predefined widgets categorized under Tasks, Financials, Profitability, Operations, People, Organization, or Copy from Reports.
    โ€‹
๐Ÿ“Œ Only users with access to the required data will see certain template categories. For example, only coordinators, managers, and admins will see the Copy from Reports category.

๐Ÿ“Œ When a report is added as a widget, it becomes independentโ€”editing the widget won't affect the original report in the Reports tab.

Editing a Widget

To edit a widget, click on the โœ๏ธ icon:

From there, you can edit the widget's name in the upper left, as well as use options you usually find in the reports: filters, fields, grouping options, charts, custom formulas, and targets.
โ€‹
๐Ÿ“Œ Be sure to select Save after adjusting the information you'd like to see in the widget!
โ€‹

A widget can also be resizedโ€”to expand or shrink it, hover over its border, and drag it to the desired spot.

More Widget Actions

To access more widget options, click the three-dot menu on the widget. From there, you can:

  • Duplicate โ€“ Create an identical copy of the widget on the current dashboard.

  • Move โ€“ Transfer the widget to another dashboard you have access to.

  • Delete โ€“ Remove the widget from the dashboard.

Missing X and Y-Axis Labels?

Widgets need a minimum size to display all labels and legend correctly. If axis labels or legend are missing, try resizing the widget.

All Charts

To display both axis labels, the widget should be 6 squares wide ร— 6 squares tall.

To display the legend as well, the widget must be at least 13 squares wide ร— 7 squares tall or 7 squares wide ร— 9 squares tall.

Donut charts

Donut charts are an exception as they are only required to be 7 squares wide x 7 squares tall to show labels.

To include the legend for donut charts, the widget must be 13 squares wide ร— 7 squares tall, or 7 ร— 9 squares.
