Customizing Tables and Charts: Setting Targets, Limits, and Formatting
Customizing Tables and Charts: Setting Targets, Limits, and Formatting

Tailor your charts in Productive by adjusting colors and setting targets and limits for better data visualization and progress tracking.

Updated this week

Productive lets you customize charts with ease. Adjust the default color scheme, set targets, and choose how data is displayed, including decimal precision or ratios/percentages.

These changes apply to both built-in charts and custom ones created with Formula fields.

Targets and Limits

Productive allows you to set target values for specific columns. These targets not only enable color-coded thresholds in tables but are also displayed directly on charts in the reports for visual clarity.

Setting a target helps you track progress towards a target, while setting a limit defines a maximum threshold. Note: The limit values are not displayed in the charts at the moment (only tables).

Note: You can set targets and limits in reports as well as in other table data views, such as Financials > Budgets or Project Management > Projects.

How to Set a Target for a Column

  1. Go to a table and locate the column you want to set a target for.

  2. Click on Formatting options.

  3. Hover over Set Target/Limit in the column options and enable the target toggle.

  4. Define the target value (e.g., 80% Scheduled/Available).

  5. You can colorize the values in the table by selecting the Colorize Value option and choosing your color combination.

    • Below Target: Displays one color for values under the target.

    • Above Target: Displays another color for values above the target.

Displaying Targets on Charts (Beta)

Targets are now visualized on charts as horizontal lines, providing clear benchmarks. You can also set multiple targets for different columns within the same chart. For example:

  • Add a target of 80% for the Scheduled/Available time.

  • Add a second target for the number of scheduled hours, e.g, 70hrs.

General Formatting Options

"Display As" Options

Choose how data is visualized in your chart:

  • Number: Displays raw numbers without a visual graph.

  • Linear Chart: Shows data as bars or lines.

  • Radial Chart: Ideal for percentages or ratios.

Precision Settings

Define how many decimal points are displayed (up to two).

"Display Value As" Options

Switch between ratio or percentage to reflect how you want your data to be displayed in the radial chart.

"Cumulative" Toggle

If you toggle on the "Cumulative" option, the table will display the accumulated values over time.

Practical Examples

Visualizing Progress

For example, a chart displaying budgeted time usage as a percentage, with a target of 50% and a limit of 100%, reveals how much time you've spent compared to what was planned. Hovering over the budget provides a quick overview of your progress.

Setting a Revenue Goal

Adding goals and limits to time or money columns helps you track progress more effectively. For instance:

  • Revenue Target: Set a target of $10,000 for the Revenue column.

  • Steps:

    • Click on the column.

    • Select "Formatting Options".

    • Set the target.

Your column now reflects this target for easy tracking, helping you stay aligned with your financial targets.
