While it's generally recommended that each team member tracks their own time in Productive, there are scenarios where you might need to log time on behalf of someone else. This flexibility can be crucial in certain situations.
When Might You Need to Track Time for Others?
Testing Productive
If you're just getting started with Productive, logging time entries for your team members can help you better understand the tool's reporting features, particularly those related to billable and non-billable hours.
βDelegated Time Tracking
Sometimes, a manager or supervisor might delegate their time tracking to you. In such cases, being able to log time on their behalf ensures that all work is accurately accounted for.
1. You just started testing Productive - a lot of the reports in Productive are related to billable / non-billable time entries. Adding some time entries for team members will give you better reports and allow you to simulate your organization better.
2. Your manager delegated his time tracking to you - if this is the case, you can track time for your supervisor.
How to Track Time for Others?
If you have admin or manager permissions in Productive, you can log time for other team members. Here's how:
Go to Company Time
Navigate to Time > Company time.
βSelect the Specific Day and Team Member
Select between the Table or Timesheet view and click on the day and the name of the team member for whom you want to log time.Add Hours Worked
Enter the hours worked, select the relevant project and service, and log the time as if you were tracking your own hours.
β
After logging these hours, the time entries will be assigned to the project, providing accurate insights into time and budget spending.
You can also edit these entries later, adjust the billable vs. non-billable hours, and view time logs by different criteria like time period, team member, or service.
