Team Allocation with Employee Fields

A typical scenario for using Productive's Employee fields.

Updated over a week ago

In this example, we will demonstrate how to use an Employee field to optimize team allocation and resource management.

The field we'll create is called "Department," which helps in categorizing employees into teams for better resource management, easier filtering, and more.

After creating the field, add it as a column in your view under Resourcing > Employees.

This column will be marked clearly as an "Employee" field, making it easy to identify and use.

To assign a department to an employee, click on the "Department" field in the employee's row.

Select the appropriate department from the dropdown menu. This intuitive inline editing feature is also supported for other field types, such as text and numbers.

Alternatively, access the individual user's profile, navigate to their Info tab and add the information under the Employee fields section.

Other Uses of Employee Fields

Employee fields can be leveraged across various sections of Productive, provided there is a connection to the object for which the custom field was created. This may sound complex, but it follows a logical structure.

Examples:

  • Time Report: If you create a custom field for Employees in the Time report found in the Reports library, this field will be available for use in time reports that reference employee capacity.

  • Data Grouping and Filtering: When using the People data source when building your report from scratch, you can group your data by the Employee field, such as "Department". This allows for detailed reports and insights based on team allocations.

  • Resource Planner: Use the Employee field as a filter in the Resource planner to view team availability and manage resources efficiently.
