Desktop timer can be used to activate the stop watch when working on certain projects. Desktop timers are available for Mac and Windows.

Did you know that Productive offers a desktop app for both Mac and Windows users? One of its most powerful features is the Desktop Timer Widget, designed to simplify time-tracking for your projects.

The Desktop Timer Widget

The Desktop Timer is a handy widget that sits in your system tray (or menu bar for Mac users), giving you quick access to a running timer.

This feature allows you to easily track the time you spend on specific projects, improving both your workflow and efficiency.

How to Access the Desktop Timer

  • For Mac users

    You can find the Desktop Timer in your menu bar.

  • For Windows users

    The Desktop Timer is located in the system tray.

Getting Started with the Desktop Timer

To start using the timer, follow these steps:

  1. Open the widget from the system tray.

  2. Select a project you want to work on from the list.

  3. Select the service you plan on tracking time against.

Once you’ve selected both the project and service, the timer will automatically start tracking your time.

  • To pause the timer, click the Pause button.

  • To add more projects and services, use the "What are you working on?" dropdown to expand your list of tasks.

Note: When you add a new project or service, the timer for the previous service will automatically stop, and tracking will begin for the new selection. To resume time tracking for a previously selected project or service, open the widget and click Start next to the desired service.

Managing Your Time Entries

When you’re done with a task or want to switch to another project, click the Pause button to easily transition between jobs without missing a beat.

If you're working on a specific task within a project and want to pin it to your time entry, simply open the Task dropdown and select your task. Additionally, you can add a note to your time entry for more context about the work you've been doing.

Visibility of Time Entries

All time entries recorded with the Desktop Timer are automatically synced and made visible in the My Time section of Productive.

This ensures that your work hours are accurately logged and easily accessible, helping you stay organized and productive.
