Reordering Your Custom Fields

Reorder custom fields to organize key data efficiently, giving you full control over how your custom field information is displayed.

Updated over a month ago

When dealing with numerous custom fields, keeping them in the right order can speed up your workflow and make it easier to find key information.

By reordering custom fields to your liking, you can prioritize the data that matters most and ensure consistency across your work in Productive.

How to Reorder Custom Fields

To reorder custom fields, follow these steps:

  1. Go to Settings > Custom fields and navigate to the relevant section (e.g., Projects).

Note: Employee fields, which can also be reordered, are located in Settings > Employee fields.

  2. You'll see a list of custom fields for that section. If you want to change the order (e.g., from One > Two > Three to Three > Two > One), simply use the handle next to each field to rearrange them.

  3. Once you return to the project, open the project sidebar and navigate to the custom fields tab, you’ll see that the custom fields are now displayed in the order you've set.

Task Custom Fields: Global vs. Local

Task custom fields can be global (applicable across all tasks and saved in the task custom field library) or local (specific to individual projects).

Global task custom fields are found in Settings > Custom fields > Tasks but cannot be reordered from this menu. To adjust their order, you must do so directly within a project.

To reorder task custom fields:

  • Navigate to the custom fields tab.

  • Select the Manage task custom fields option.

  • Rearrange the task custom fields as needed (both global and local).

  • Check the new custom field order by opening a task within a project and verifying the order on the right.
