When you win a deal in Productive, you can create a budget directly from it. This will automatically copy over services, future bookings, expenses, and time entries if needed.

Once a deal is marked as "Won," the budget creation modal will appear, allowing you to set up the budget for the linked project.

A briefcase icon will appear next to the budget name, indicating that the budget originated from a deal. Click the icon to access deal details or open the deal directly.

At the top of the budget's Activity tab, a dropdown lets you switch between Sales (deal information) and Production (budget information). Choose Sales to see notes, emails, and updates from the deal without leaving the budget.

Any deal settings, such as time approvals, tracking restrictions, or custom cost rates, will be transferred and become budget settings.

Scroll to the Origin Deal section in the budget sidebar to view or edit the link between the budget and the deal.

Unlink or change the origin deal by selecting Edit Origin Deal.

📌 Only deals from the same client can be linked to a budget.
📌 When linking a deal to a budget, make sure that the deal has been won. Deals in other pipeline stages cannot be linked to a budget.

For recurring budgets, the origin deal is automatically copied from the recurring template to every budget generated in the series.

If the recurring budget was created by winning a retainer deal, this happens automatically at the point of winning: no manual linking needed.

To update the origin deal on a recurring series, open the budget sidebar and change the Origin Deal. The next budget in the series will automatically inherit the updated deal.

📌 Updating the origin deal only applies to future budgets in the series. Previously generated budgets retain their original deal link unless changed manually.

In Financials > Budgets or within reports, add the Origin deal field or filter to your view. This lets you quickly see which deal preceded each budget.

Copying a budget to create a new one does not duplicate the link to the deal, keeping your budget tracking clear and organized.
