Key tasks mark specific points in time or important deliverables that help you track project progress effectively.
Managing Key Tasks
Creating Key Tasks
Key tasks can be created from various locations where tasks are created:
Converting a Task to a Key Task
A task can be converted to a key task and vice versa. To do so, open the three-dot menu in the upper right corner of a task and select "Convert to key task".
However, a subtask cannot be converted to a key task, but a key task can contain subtasks.
Tip: Hover right next to the task number to reveal the quick-convert option.
Key Task Properties
A key task's main feature is its due date, but it can also have a start date.
Moreover, it follows the statuses from the workflow set on the project to which that key task belongs.
Key tasks cannot be set as private; they are always public.
You can always check a task's or key task’s location by looking at its path. For example, the path appears above the name and shows Folder / Task List / Task Number, which is especially helpful when navigating across multiple folders.
The path can be collapsed to show only the task number and expanded again using the Expand path icon.
You can also click on the folder or task list name in the path to open a temporary tab in the project navigation, filtered based on the key task's current status:
If the task is open, the tab is titled Tasks and shows the task list with tasks in Not Started and Started statuses.
If the task is closed, the tab titled Closed tasks shows the task list with tasks in Closed status only.
📌 The tab is temporary — selecting a different tab will remove it. Click Save to keep it as a permanent project tab.
