Setting Up Recurring Tasks

Easily set tasks to repeat daily, weekly, monthly, or annually. Adjust or stop schedules anytime with a few clicks in the task settings.

Updated over 3 months ago

When you create or edit a task, you’ll see a "Repeats" option when you click on the Date and time section.

Turning this option on will display various repeat settings, where you can choose between daily, weekly, monthly, or annually.

Let’s go over how each setting works!

Daily

When you close a daily repeat task, a new one is created right away with a due date based on the number of days you selected as the interval.

Example:

  • If Task A had a due date range from Jan 10 - Jan 20 with a daily repeat set to "every 1 day," closing it creates a new task with a range from Jan 11 - Jan 21.

Similarly, if you set "every 2 days," the new date range will be from Jan 12 - Jan 22.

  • If Task B had a due date set to Jan 1 with a daily repeat set to "every 10 days", closing it creates a new task with a due date of Jan 11.

Weekly

Weekly repeating tasks look for the next available event based on the day of the week you’ve set.

Screenshot Example:

  • If you close the task on Monday, it will create a new task due on Wednesday (if that's the next scheduled day).

  • If you close it on Wednesday, a new task will be created for the following Monday.

Monthly

For monthly tasks, closing the current task creates a new one with a due date on the same day next month.

Example:
Set the repeat schedule for the 1st of the month, and when closed, a new task will be due on the 1st of the following month—perfect for tasks like monthly reports or website maintenance.

Annually

Annual repeating tasks create a new task with a due date set for the same day next year after the current task is closed.

Adjusting the Schedule

To modify or remove the repeat schedule, simply open the task, click on the current repeat setting, and adjust it. To stop the repeat, select Repeats Never.

Important Notes

  • Closing the Task Triggers the Repeat
A new task is only created once the current one is closed, regardless of whether the repeat is daily, weekly, monthly, or annually.

  • Subtasks and To-Dos
Subtasks will carry over to the new task, but their due dates must be manually adjusted. Closing a parent task doesn’t close subtasks—these need to be closed manually. To-dos will also be carried over and will retain their assignees.

  • Assignees are Retained
Tasks, subtasks, and to-dos keep their assigned person when carried over.

  • Task Description and Attachments
The task description and any attachments will be copied over to the repeated task. However, task comments and the record of the changes from the feed will not be carried over.

  • Dependent Tasks Are Not Repeated
Dependent tasks connected to the original task will not carry over to the repeated task.

  • Repeat Icon for Visibility
A repeat icon will appear in the task, reminding you that the task is set to repeat. You can also add a Repeat schedule field to your task view and use the "Repeating" filter to include or exclude these tasks.
