To use a project as a template, you need to save at least one project as a template first. Here's how you can create and manage project templates in Productive.

Note that a project template does not include invoices, budgets, or the time tab.

It does not affect the project numbering sequence, does not trigger sending out notifications, nor is template data included in reporting. Deleting a project template will move it to the Recycle bin.

Creating a Project Template

1) Open the Project Sidebar

  • Navigate to the project you want to use as a template.

  • Click on the More actions tab (three dots) in the sidebar.

  • Select "Save as template".

Note: The option to create a template directly from the Template center will be added soon!

2) Set Template Details

  • Provide a name for your template.

  • Select a distinct project color.

  • Add a description (optional but helpful if you have many templates).

  • Choose whether to save the entire project or manually select specific elements to include in the template.

πŸ’‘ Budgets, invoices, and time entries are not saved in the project template.

Accessing Your Saved Project Templates

All templates are saved in the Template center. To access it:

  • Hover over your profile avatar.

  • Select the Template center.

The Template Center is organized to help you view and quickly access various template types.

Creating a New Project Using a Template

There are two ways to create a new project using a template:

1) Via Project Screen, Quick Add, or Winning a Deal

  • When creating a new project through any of these methods, you can choose to use a template.

2) From the Template Center

  • Go to the Template Center.

  • Select your project template.

  • Click on "Use template" and follow the project creation flow.

While creating a project from a template, you can still customize it:

  • Decide whether to create an internal or private project (Step 1)

  • Choose which elements of the template to include (e.g., only Docs and project members; Step 2).

  • In step three of the project creation, decide whether to add a budget (Step 3).

Managing a Template

Project templates can be edited or deleted in the Template center.

Editing a Template:

  • When editing, a black bar will indicate that you are working on a template project, not an active project.

  • After you are done with editing the template click "Done" in the upper-right corner to save the changes.
