Instead of invoicing the full amount you're due, Productive allows you to create invoices for just a portion of that total.
This is particularly useful when you want to bill your client incrementally or for specific parts of the work completed.
Steps to Create a Partial Invoice
Navigate to the Invoicing Section
Go to Financials > Invoices from the main navigation.
Alternatively, access the invoicing feature directly from a specific project or budget by selecting the Invoices tab and clicking on the New button.
Create the Invoice
Start by creating an invoice as you normally would. For detailed steps on invoice creation, refer to the Creating Invoice Drafts guide.
In the invoice creation window, you'll be able to edit various fields such as the service type, description, unit, and most importantly, the quantity.
Adjust the Quantity for Partial Billing
To create a partial invoice, simply reduce the quantity of a line item (e.g., hours worked, units delivered) on the invoice.
For example, if the total quantity of hours worked for a service is 20, but you only want to bill for 18 hours at this time, reduce the quantity to 18. This will proportionally reduce the invoice amount.
Future Invoicing for Remaining Quantities
The remaining quantity (in this case, 2 hours) can be invoiced later using the "Remaining amount" invoicing method, ensuring flexibility in your billing process.
You can track and invoice the remaining amount at any time, allowing you to manage your cash flow more effectively.
Editing Invoices
Modify Invoice Data
You can edit invoice details anytime before sending the invoice. Simply navigate to Financials > Invoices, select the invoice in question, and make your changes.
Limitations
Changes to multiple line items cannot be made simultaneously.
Individual line item prices cannot be reduced as a percentage of the total amount.
If you're making recurring changes to invoices within the same budget, consult this article for more detailed guidance.
