Understanding the Budget/Deal Track in the Resource Planner

Learn how the budget and deal timeline track works in the Resource Planner's By Budget/Deal view.

When working in Resource Planner > By Budget/Deal, each budget or deal has a timeline track displayed on its row, showing its full duration above bookings.

This gives you a quick visual overview of how the budget or deal spans across your planning period.

Track Duration

The track spans the full start-to-end date of the budget or deal. If a budget or deal doesn't have an end date, the track extends indefinitely.

Color Coding

Color coding helps you identify budgets and deals at a glance:

  • Blue β€” Budgets

  • Yellow β€” Deals

Recurring Budgets

If you're working with recurring budgets, future iterations will appear in the same row as part of the timeline, so you can plan across budget cycles without losing context.

Usage Indicators

The track highlights how much of the budget or time has been used compared to the estimate.

You can customize what the track shows using Budget Indicators: accessible via the gear icon in the top-right corner of the Resource Planner. Options include:

  • Show indicators: turns on/off the track overlay entirely

  • Time Usage: shows scheduled vs. estimated time

  • Budget Usage: shows spend vs. budget total

Hover Details

Hovering over a budget or deal track reveals helpful details depending on your settings, including:

  • Start and end dates (or just one if both are not set)

  • Estimated time or budget total

  • Forecasted billable time/budget used

  • Current billable time/budget used

  • Future scheduled time/budget usage
