Deal Financial Forecasting

Configure how deal revenue is distributed across time to improve forecasting and reporting accuracy.

Deal financial forecasting lets you control how and when a deal's revenue appears in your forecasts. Instead of assigning all revenue to a single date, you can spread it across a custom period: evenly or with full custom control per period.

📌 This feature distributes revenue on deals for forecasting purposes. It is separate from custom revenue recognition for fixed price budgets, which controls when recognized revenue is recorded once work is underway.

Some features in this article are currently in beta. If you don't see Amount to distribute, Fixed amounts, or the Weighted deal value label yet, you're on the previous version where this setting was called Projected Revenue Distribution and only percentage-based custom distribution was available. These updates are rolling out shortly.

Plan Availability

  • Even Distribution is available on all subscription plans. This allows you to spread revenue evenly across a selected time period.

  • Custom Distribution, where you can define specific dates and assign custom amounts or percentages, is available on the Ultimate plan only.

Why This Matters

For multi-month engagements (or Retainer deals), all revenue appearing in a single month leads to inaccurate forecasts. Deal financial forecasting lets you smooth revenue across time, giving you a more realistic picture of your pipeline.

How to Access

Click the coins icon in the deal header to open Deal financial forecasting.

Amount to Distribute

Before choosing a distribution method, select what you want to distribute:

  • Weighted deal value — distributes deal value × probability. If probability or deal value changes, the distributed amount recalculates automatically.

  • Deal value — distributes the full deal value, ignoring probability. If probability changes, the distributed amount stays unchanged.

📌 Weighted deal value is the default and preserves the previous behavior. Switch to Deal value when you want your forecast to reflect the full contract value regardless of probability.

Even Distribution

Pick a start and end date. The selected amount is spread evenly across every day in the period.

📌 Example

  • Deal value: €5,000

  • Probability: 20%

  • Weighted deal value: €1,000

  • Spread evenly across July (31 days) → €32.26 per day

If probability increases to 90%, weighted deal value becomes €4,500 → €145.16 per day.

Custom Distribution

Add multiple distribution periods and assign revenue to each. Custom distribution gives you full control when revenue is earned unevenly across time.

Distribution type

Choose how to enter the amount per period.

Percentages

  • Enter a percentage for each period.

  • Percentages must total 100% — save is blocked until valid.

The amount per period is calculated automatically.

Fixed amounts

  • Enter a fixed monetary amount for each period.

  • Amounts do not need to total the distributed amount — save is always available.

A running counter shows how much has been distributed and how much is left (or confirms "fully distributed").

📌 When using fixed amounts, the distributed total and the deal value can differ. If deal value changes after you've set fixed amounts, the row amounts stay unchanged — only the summary counter updates.

📌 Example

  • Weighted deal value: €1,000

  • July → 20% → €200 → ~€6.45 per day

  • August → 80% → €800 → ~€25.81 per day

How Forecasting Charts Reflect Your Settings

The forecasting chart in each deal shows:

  • Deal value: fixed green line, always equals the full deal value

  • Expected revenue: full deal value at 100% probability, shown in light yellow

  • Forecasted revenue: the distributed amount based on your Amount to distribute setting (Weighted deal value or Deal value), spread across time according to your distribution settings

  • Budget used: tracked spend against the deal

  • Cost: red bars (per-period) or red lines (cumulative)

In cumulative view, Forecasted revenue and Expected revenue build up over time based on your distribution dates.

In per-period view, the chart shows the exact amount per period at both current probability and 100%.

Reporting

Deal financial forecasting output is visible in:

  • The deal forecasting chart

  • The Deals report as the Forecasted revenue field. A Forecasted revenue source field is also available, showing whether Forecasted revenue is based on Weighted deal value or Deal value.

  • The Services report and Financial Items report as Forecasted revenue. Each revenue item carries the portion of forecasted revenue assigned to that period.

📌 Distribution dates are for revenue forecasting only — they don't affect time tracking or booking dates.

Won and Lost Deals

When a deal is marked as Won, probability is set to 100% — meaning weighted deal value equals deal value. Revenue is spread according to your selected distribution and dates.

When a deal is marked as Lost, probability is set to 0% for all days, regardless of distribution settings or dates.

Retainer Deals and Deal Financial Forecasting

Retainer deals handle forecasting differently from One-off deals. Even distribution is locked — custom distribution is not available. Revenue is always spread evenly across the deal's calculated date range.

Changes that affect distribution on Retainer deals:

  • Period duration, number of periods, or start date — distribution is fully recreated. All period dates shift, and revenue will appear in different periods in your forecasts.

  • Value entry mode (Per period ↔ Total) — changes how deal value is interpreted. The total forecasted revenue amount changes accordingly.

  • Value source (Manual ↔ Calculated from services) — changes the underlying deal value. Forecasted revenue recalculates based on the new value.

  • Probability — affects the weighted deal value amount only. Distribution structure is unchanged.

  • Switching to One-off — Even lock is removed. All periods collapse into a single distribution spanning the original date range.
