How to Track Time on Productive Projects in Jira

Log time from Jira to Productive projects.

Updated over a week ago

Tracking time on Productive projects directly from Jira is simple. Here's a step-by-step guide.

Open a Project and Select the Issue

Begin by opening the desired project in Jira and selecting the specific issue you want to track time on.

Access Time-Tracking Widget

Once you've opened the issue, locate the time-tracking widget.

Select the Budget

Choose the budget you're working on. You'll see the budget's name along with the client's logo. Under the name, a list of services will appear. Select the service relevant to your task.

Add Description (Optional)

If necessary, add a brief description of your work.

Start the Timer or Add Manual Entry

If you prefer to start the timer, simply scroll down and hit the "Start" button. Alternatively, for manual time entries, input the desired time and click "Save".

Note: Any edits to time entries must be made in Jira Worklog to be reflected in Productive. Conversely, edits made in Productive will not update in Jira Worklog.

Storing Jira Issue Information

When recording time entries in Productive, certain information about the corresponding Jira issue is stored:

  • Jira Issue ID

  • Jira Issue Link

  • Jira Issue Status

  • Jira Issue Summary

  • Jira Worklog ID

This information is valuable for generating reports and can be used as fields and filters in Productive's time entry reports.

Important: Remember that this information is synced only once, at the time of recording the time entry. Any subsequent modifications to the issue in Jira will not be reflected in Productive.
